A. COMPTON EMPOWERED | 2014 SUMMER YOUTH EXPERIENCE

ii. BACKGROUND: The COMPTON EMPOWERED |2014 SUMMER LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE is a community initiative launched by Compton’s newly-elected Mayor, Aja Brown. Focused on providing enrichment to Compton’s youth through opportunity and exposure, the 2014 Summer Leadership Experience will be the first of its kind implemented throughout the City. The 2014 Summer Leadership Experience is designed to prepare Compton youth to succeed in college and in the workplace, and introduce our students to the foundational qualities of leadership and forge a new connection between a good education and a great career.
B. YOUNG MEN OF COMPTON SEED PROGRAM ( CPTF)
i. DATE: March 2014
ii. BACKGROUND: The SEED Program specifically designed for Compton middle school aged young men that will inspire, educate and empower the Young Men of Compton (YMOC), to become innovators, entrepreneurs, leaders, and productive members of our society by teaching them how to dream, plan, think, prepare and strive for success. SEED will promote and develop core values such as: discipline, respect, honesty, responsibility, self-confidence, resilience, pursuit of excellence, ethics and professionalism. The SEED program will foster an atmosphere that allows the YMOC to become creative thinkers who shape a new culture that leads generations toward positive and productive outcomes.
C. COMPTON GIRLS EMPOWERMENT ��� MENTORSHIP INITIATIVE

ii. BACKGROUND: The mission of the Compton Girl’s Empowerment Initiative is to teach leadership and character development skills, promote healthy sustainable relationships, and prevent acts and exposure to violence and high risk behaviors in the lives of Compton young ladies. This initiative will focus on self esteem, leadership, healthy relationships, career development, academic achievement, and communication skills. The major components of this initiative include leadership and character development academies, awareness workshops and trainings, youth summits, and recreational activities to encourage Compton youth to be proactive in creating a legacy of anti-violence and prevention approaches that they, ultimately, can encourage in places where they live, work, worship, and educate.
D. COMPTON YOUTH AMBASSADORS
i. DATE: September 2014
ii. BACKGROUND: As an extension of Mayor Aja Brown’s COMPTON EMPOWERED | Summer Leadership Experience, all graduates will be offered an opportunity to become a Mayor���s Office Youth Ambassador. The Youth Ambassador program will afford Compton students the opportunity to expand their leadership skills through exposure and experience within the City of Compton and the state. Youth Ambassadors will meet bi-monthly for the course of the school year and have an array of opportunities to develop the leadership skills needed to draft youth policy, empower Compton’s youth and provide insight directly to Mayor Aja Brown. Youth Ambassadors will also have an opportunity to travel to speak on behalf of their issues as well as an opportunity during the winter to stay on a University campus. Youth Ambassadors will have an opportunity to develop future programming for Compton youth and serve on the planning committees of several initiatives.
